Mr Dupont M. Newbro, of Butte, Montana, started out with a retail drug store in 1891, and eventually became a wholesaler. By 1894, Newbro Drug Co., had offices in New York and London. They Manufactured and distributed hundreds of products. During the same approximate time, Mr Newbro was also president of the Washoe Copper Company but it was soon sold to the Amalgamated Copper Co., for several million dollars.

Newbro invented his "Herpicide" in 1898 and it was a great success. Not long after the initial success of the product Newbro sold out his wholesale drug business in order to concentrate on selling this preparation. The preparation was first sold to individuals and prescribed by physicians, and later became available through barbers. Eventually, the business became so large that Newbro organized the Herpicide Company, and moved to Detroit, Michigan. In 1904, the Herpicide Co., composed of D.M. Newbro, and Elmer E. Gallogly, registered their Trade Mark.
