Woodland Cream
This preparation was advertised by Fetridge & Co., in 1857 (below). Fetridge & Co. were in business in New York at least as early as 1851. Their most well-known product was their "Balm of a Thousand Flowers." The following is a transcription of the 1857 ad:
WOODLAND CREAM
A Pomade for beautifying the hair, rendering it soft and glossy as silk. For dressing the hair it has no equal, being superior to any French article now in use, and sold for half the price. The use of it on gentleman's hair causes it to curl in the most natural manner. The price is only 50 cents. None genuine unless signed by Fetridge & Co., Proprietors of "Balm of a Thousand Flowers." For sale by all Druggists.
