Caroline Weisser, of Los Angeles, California, registered a Patent for her Hair Restorer in 1881 (Patent #247,720). Her recipe called for (1) boiling 1 ounce each of olive leaves, marjoram leaves, and marjoram roots, in a pint of soft water (2) after the fluid is reduced to about 1/2 pint, cool it, strain it, and add 1 ounce of glycerine and 20 drops of perfume. The Proprietor claimed that the preparation would strengthen and invigorate the hair, and would not allow the formation of dandruff.
