Adolphe F. Godefroy & Son (Charles W.), of St. Louis MO., registered this brand name as a trademark for "hair dyes" in 1911. They said they had been selling the brand since 1910. The work "tar" was underlined in the picture of the word. The trademark was renewed in 1931 and 1951 by the Godefroy Mfg. Co.
