George B. Philpitts was a Barber/Hairdresser in New York from 1834 until at least 1850. He was probably the father of Robert F. Philpitts, who was a Barber from 1855 through 1861. In the 1858 N.Y. State Directory, there was a full-page ad for Johnson & Philpitt's Hair Dressing Saloon, and this preparation (below). The business at that time was at 91 Wall Street - corner of Water.
