Jacob S. Merrell established the Jacob S. Merrell Co. of St Louis in 1853. According to Fike, after his death in 1885, the name was changed to the J. S. Merrell Drug Co. He sold numerous medicines, one of which was a Hair Restorative. Most of the bottles found have been embossed with the company name only, so, one would probably need a labelled one to know for sure it was the Hair Restorative. His Hair Restorer was listed for sale in 1896 and 1901 Morrison & Plummer catalogs.
