Lount's Hair Treatment
William R. Lount, of Austin, Texas, registered a Patent for his Hair Treatment in 1869 (Patent #96,245). It was for "straightening, softening, and renewing the human hair." The preparation was made by combining the oil of wild cucumber, one-half pint, with one gallon linseed-oil, four pounds beeswax, four pounds spermaceti, and four pounds white rosin. The ingredients were combined by melting them together. Other fats, oils, or resins may be used instead of the linseed-oil, wax, rosin, and spermaceti. The primary ingredient was the oil of cucumber.
