Charles Hughes, of New York City, registered a Patent for his Hair Restorative in 1882 (Patent #260,570). His restorativce was composed of: two gills of neat's foot oil, one and one-half table-spoonful of crude petroleum, and one gill of alcohol (proof-spirit). The ingredients were to be mixed by agitation at about blood heat.
