The word "HAIR-ROOT" and a picture were registered as trademarks in 1900 by the Kilmer Company, of New York. Dr Andral Kilmer was selling his medicines from the mid 1870s in Binghampton, New York. Andral's brother joined him in the business in 1878, and bought out his interest by 1892. Kilmer & Co. were selling a wide range of patent medicines by the turn of the century. With product names like "Swamp Root" and "Ocean Weed," It's no surprise to see the name of this hair preparation. The business was still going strong well into the 20th century.
