J. J. Mack & Co., of San Francisco registered a Trademark for this brand name in 1886 (TM #13,720). The Trademark Petition came with a label as an example of how it would be used. It was described as "a preparation for beautifying the skin." The Wilsons called it "Davidson's Circassian Bloom For The Hair," and said it was originated by Dr. Henry M. Davidson from Ogdensburgh, N.Y. It's possible that the preparation was initially for the skin, and later for the skin and hair. According to Fike, the product was advertised in 1871.
