Dr. John August's Hair Rejuvenator
John August started out in Brooklyn as a "Barber" in 1849. The following year he started listing himself as a "Hairdresser" at Montague Hall. By 1860, he had moved to 7 Clinton, where he stayed until after the turn of the century. In addition to being listed as a "Hairdresser," from 1883 until 1887, he was listed under "Hair Dye." Starting in 1870, he also called himself a "Hair Doctor." That was the listing in the census for 1870 and 1900. The last few years he was in business (1888-1909), he said he was in the "Patent Medicine" business. At least as early as 1870, John August Jr. was also listed as a Hair Doctor.

According to Devner, "August's Hair Restorer" was being sold in the 1870s, and it was called "Hair Rejuvenator" by 1900. "August's Hair Restorer" was for sale in the 1885 McKesson & Robbins Catalog. August registered the label shown in 1901. Bottle description was contributed by Don Gosselin.
